Logo Stinger

For this project, I designed a simple logo for myself and created a stinger animation. This short clip can be used at the start of any videos I create as a way for the viewer to recognize and remember my name.

The first step was to create the design in Illustrator. I had previously brainstormed a series of logos for myself and chose one to vectorize for animation. After completing the design, I made sure all elements were on individual layers and the design was ready to move into After Effects.

I researched other creators’ logo stingers and took note of what I felt was effective. Because the logo contained a planet, I was looking for motion that would have a futuristic aesthetic to it.

I focused most of the movement on the planet in the middle of the logo, animating the rings to resemble a comet. The minor enlargement of the stars is subtle but brings their entrance to life. Finally, the first and last names appear out of the planet. This was a bit of a challenge for me as I had to hide the words before they were put into motion. In the end, I created a few overlapping masks that successfully hid the text until It was ready to be seen. The last step was to add sound effects. I decided to add audio in After Effects rather than in Premiere Pro to avoid transferring the file across platforms. I downloaded the sound effects from PixaBay, a royalty-free website for stock footage, photos, music, and sound.
